About

Ms. Sharon Lerner graduated from the Royal Academy of Dance College in London, England. Upon receipt of her diploma, Ms. Lerner was certified to train students in the RAD Syllabus, and has been teaching this Syllabus for over 37 years. Prior to teaching in Baltimore, she performed professionally with the Stuttgart Festival Ballet Company in Stuttgart, Germany.

Ms. Lerner brings choreographic and directing experience to her role as Director of The Dance Academy of Baltimore. Her students have performed at the Magic Kingdom in Disney World as well as aboard the Carnival Cruise Line. Her students were also chosen to participate in the National Association of Performing Arts Education’s weekend in New York City. This weekend of workshops and classes culminated in Ms. Sharon’s students performing at Carnegie Hall. Some Dance Academy alumnae have also performed on Broadway, and a majority of student continue on to dance in college and troupes.

Dance Camp

Every year, the Dance Academy of Baltimore runs a four-week summer camp (from mid-June to mid-July). Culminating in a final camp showcase, students learn various choreographies while also engaging in Ballet, Modern, and Tap classes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should students wear to class?

For Ballet Classes, everyone should wear pink tights, pink ballet slippers, and a leotard. The color of the leotard depends on your child's level. Pre-Primary and Primary wear pink leotards, Grade 1 and Grade 2 wear light blue leotards, Grade 3 and Grade 4 wear navy blue leotards and Grade 5 and above wear black leotards. 
For Modern classes, students should wear footless tights (any color), a solid color leotard, and a lyrical modern shoe if they prefer not to dance in bare feet.
For Tap classes, students should wear tights (any color), a solid color leotard, and tap shoes.

How many students are in each class?

The Dance Aacdemy of Baltimore keeps class sizes fairly small. Most classes are between 5 to 10 people.

How do I register?

Contact Ms. Sharon! Once you schedule a placement class, she'll give you a registration form.

Are there any scholarships, discounts, or deals?

While these options were not available during the pandemic, your family may qualify for classes at a lower price. Just talk to Ms. Sharon about your financial needs and she'll assess your situation.

If my child is Shomer Shabbat, will they still be able to participate in the End of Year Show?

Yes! The Dance Academy of Baltimore does not run any performances on Saturdays nor any classes on Saturdays or Fridays.
